  • In the academic year 2015/2016 12,101 students are registered at Birzeit University
  • 10,710 undergraduate students, 1,290 graduate and PhD students, and 101 diploma and special students
  • 64% of the student body is female and 36% is male. (64.1% of the undergraduate students and 65.9% of the graduate students are females)

Campus Grounds


Birzeit University has eight faculties. These offer 91 academic programs, among them 59 to achieve a Bachelor’s degree, 28 graduate studies programs, one PhD program, two diploma programs, and one program for foreign students.

  • The university has 504 academic staff members (387 faculty members and 117 researchers and teaching assistants)
  • More than 31% percent of faculty members are women
  • 61% of full-time faculty members hold a Doctorate
  • 142 faculty members part-timer
  • The university also has 449 non-academic staff members, including senior professionals, administrators, technicians, and service workers

Institutes & Centers

As part of its community outreach mission, the university is also home to 11 specialized Institutes and Centers. The institutes offer graduate programs and conduct academic and applied research. The centers offer training and conduct applied research.

  • Birzeit University includes one main library (the Yusuf Ahmed Alghanim Library) and three branch libraries: the Institute of Law Library, Institute of Woman Studies Library and the library of Said Khoury Building for Development Studies.
  • The campus of Birzeit University includes Birzeit University Museum, Naseeb Aziz Shaheen Theatre, Samih Darwazah Pharmaceuticals Institute and Michel and Sanieh Hakim Observatory.

Financial Aid

  • During the academic year 2014/2015, students received more than 3.3 million Jordanian Dinars ($4.7 million) in financial aid
  • 45% of the university students where beneficiaries of this aid
  • 20% of the students made special arrangements or implemented installment plans to make their payments
