Seeking cooperation between Birzeit University and Tunisian academic institutions, President Abdul Latif Abu Hijleh and Vice President for Communication and Development Ghassan al-Khatib visited the Tunisian ambassador to the Palestinian Authority, Habib Bin Farah, at Tunisia's embassy in Ramallah on Tuesday, October 1.

Abu Hijleh congratulated Ambassador Farah on upgrading of the embassy from representative office status and expressed the university’s interest in working with Tunisian academic institutions which are well known for their academic excellence.

Abu Hijleh said that he is particularly interested in establishing ties with Université de Tunis el Manar in order to facilitate development of the Arab academic sector.

University officials and Tunisian officials both emphasized the need to activate a previously signed agreement between Birzeit University and Université de Tunis el Manar that initiates academic and practical collaboration in the field of scientific research, provides for job opportunities to enhance students’ work skills, exchanges expertise, and organizes high-level trips for the benefit of PhD students.

Dean of Law and Public Administration Yasser Amouri, who accompanied the delegation along with Dean of Students’ Affairs Mohammad al-Ahmad, expressed his interest in developing a doctorate program in law. To do so requires qualified expertise from all over the world, especially Tunisia, which is known for its excellence in fields of law.

Al-Ahmad further tackled the importance of cultural and artistic collaboration, which entails inviting Tunisian bands to perform for Birzeit University students.

Ambassador Bin Farah praised Birzeit University’s academic and social excellence and commended its advanced status in comparison to other Arab and international universities. Ambassador Bin Farah also stressed the depth of the ties binding the Tunisian and Palestinian people.
