Birzeit University TV Studio Officially Inaugurated

Birzeit University celebrated the official opening of its television studio on May 16, 2016. The main objective of this studio is to provide mass communication students in the Media Department with the latest media technologies.

The studio features a range of industry-standard equipment, purchased with $100,000 donated by Birzeit University and other organizations. The Palestinian Authority offered a number of cameras and 27 other pieces of cinematography equipment were donated by Al Arabiya TV Chanel. In addition, Paltel Group and Birzeit University’s Media Development Center provided the studio with furniture and logistics needed to complete the studio.

At the inauguration ceremony, university president Abdel Latif Abu Hijleh expressed his excitement. “The inauguration of this TV studio, which is built on our longstanding traditions of excellence in journalism and mass communication, is a major step toward our goal of becoming the preeminent university site for teaching and research about media.”

Dean of the Faculty of Arts Majdi Al Maliki emphasized the importance of combining knowledge, and practical and technical experience to enable media students to pursue their future profession successfully. “This studio will ensure that or students are able to think critically about the modern and ever-changing media landscape.”

General supervisor of the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation Ahmad Assaf assured that this studio is anchored “in the recognition of the key role of media in open societies and the power of information in the modern world.”
