Dr. Ibrahim Makkawi, Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at BZU, was selected as the 2012 International Alumni Award recipient for Kent State University’s College of Education, Health and Human Services Third Annual Hall of Fame Awards.

Dr. Makkawi received his Ph.D. in educational psychology in 1999 from KSU. He also earned a master’s of education degree in adult education from the University of Minnesota, and a master’s of arts degree in social psychology from Hamline University.

He is actively involved in the Community Psychology Program at Birzeit University, and has published six journal articles and presented papers at more than 20 conferences in a variety of countries over the last 15 years.

“Kent State University represented an ideal place for me to pursue my doctoral thesis about the impact of Palestinian student movement on collective identity development, especially combining mixed method research design. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Vilma Seeberg in cultural foundations and Dr. Linda Rogers in educational psychology. My academic experience at KSU helped me to transform and maintain the spirit of my commitment to larger issues in a way conducive to an academic career,” said Makkawi.

The College of Education, Health and Human Services will honor Makkawi and six other distinguished alumni on 28 September 2012.
