The Institute of Community and Public Health at BZU conducted on 21-23 June 2011, a specialized targeted training for the 2nd set of Registered Midwives working in the UNRWA health sector.

The training aimed at strengthening and supporting the midwifery model of care as primary health care providers for antenatal family planning and postnatal services for the Palestinian refugee population.

The training was conducted by the academic researcher Sahar Hassan from the Women’s Health Unit over 3 consecutive days using interactive training approaches i.e. simulations, group discussions, games, brain storming and focused lecture sessions . The training included topics related to antenatal care of the normal and high risk pregnancy, common gynecological  problems and postnatal care in clinic and home settings.

The participants in this training were 24 registered midwives from various districts; Jenin, Tulkarm, Nablus, Ramallah, Bethlehem and Hebron.

The Women’s Health Unit team will follow up on this training during the months of July and August 2011, through field visits for participants in the UNRWA clinics in various districts.
