Media Development Center Concludes Media Ethics Course

Birzeit University Media Development Center concluded a specialized training course on media ethics held at the Arab American University in Jenin on November 1, 2014.

The course was funded by the Heinrich Boell Foundation and is part of the National Media Initiative, which is led by the Media Development Center in cooperation with 44 partner institutions and will continue through 2016. The course was conducted by the National Initiative’s coordinator Mohammed Abu-Arqoub, an educator in media laws and ethics.

Arab American University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences dean Mohammed Abu Samra welcomed the activities of the National Initiative, emphasizing the need to benefit from performance development on all levels, in media education and in professional practice.

The five-day training course was attended by 17 journalists from the Palestinian News Agency  (Wafa), Palestine Today Satellite Station, Al-Balad Radio Station, Farah TV Station and media graduate students in Jenin.

The training covered many vital topics including, concepts of freedom of opinion and expression and issues of libel, slander and permissible criticism. Trainees were given practice exercises and discussed the main components of media codes of conduct.
