The Birzeit University Media Development Center participated in the 11th Asia Media Summit, organized by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The summit was held under the patronage of King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz on May 6 -7, 2014 entitled "Media and diversity: enriching the broadcasting experience." Journalists and media professionals from 50 countries participated, and media center director Nibal Thawabteh and the center’s follow-up and evaluation officer Imad Al-Asfar represented Palestine.

The conference provided a unique opportunity for broadcasters in the region to share their thoughts on broadcasting and information. This year’s summit allocated special sessions to address the radio and television broadcasting experiences in Asia and worldwide, and highlighted the challenges and problems faced by the media industry in the Arab world.

Thawabteh and Al-Asfar gave an overview of the Media Development Center’s history and mission, which aims at improving the efficiency of Palestinian media staff and students through specialized training and training manuals, in partnership with local and international media organizations.

On the sidelines of the summit, Thawabteh and Al-Asfar met with head Saudi Arabian Radio and Television Authority Abdul Rahman Al-Hazza', and also with head of the Saudi Producers Association Mohammed Al-Ghamdi to discuss future cooperation.
