Model-Based Fault Diagnosis Applied as Stop-Gap, Describes Lecture

An introduction into the field of fault detection and diagnosis using methods that have proven their performance in practical applications was presented in a lecture held on March 29, 2016 by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Birzeit University Ali Abdo reviewed modern automatic control systems to enhance the safety, reliability and dependability in electronic systems. 

Abdo said that supervision, monitoring, and fault detection play an increasing role in technical processes and vehicles, improving their reliability, availability, maintenance and life span.

“A fault-free system operation cannot be guaranteed and a modern way to improve systems reliability is needed,” Abdo said. “One of the modern schemes used in fault diagnosis is a model-based system accepted as a powerful tool to solve technical problems, which is fully integrated into vehicle control systems, power systems, robots, transport systems, manufacturing processes and process control systems.”
