Fatah central committee member Nabil Shaath, speaking at a lecture, argued that the new Palestinian national project strategy is based on "internationalization and unarmed confrontation to end the Israeli occupation." This new strategy is the third strategy being adopted in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he said, and was preceded by subsequent periods when the strategies of armed struggle and negotiations were pursued.

The Birzeit University Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies organized the lecture on March 14, 2015. It was moderated by Vice President for Advancement Ghassan Khatib.

"Our new strategy must be based on solidarity and growing international movements against racist Israeli policy,” Shaath said, “as well as the need to unite and build our institutions."

Speaking about negotiations, the second strategy adopted by Palestinians, Shaath indicated that the negotiations period was divided into three phases. The first was characterized by the search for peace, the second was used to control crises, while the third might be called the "Trojan horse," where Israel used the negotiations to camouflage its policies. He emphasized that Palestinians refused to return to negotiations in light of the continuous building of settlements and violations of Palestinian human rights.

This lecture is one of a series of diplomatic meetings included in the course Strategic Communication, offered by the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute. He said that the university is seeking to harmonize local and international communications and that the university will soon offer a specialized diploma in strategic communication.
