On November 1, 2014, Birzeit University hosted a meeting for the deans of student affairs at Palestinian universities. The meeting addressed a range of important issues of concern, most notably the preparation of a draft constitution for the General Union of Palestinian Students. The meeting ended with the formation of a committee commissioned to prepare a draft constitution. The committee is composed of the deans of student affairs at Al-Quds Open University, Al-Quds University and Birzeit University.

The committee will prepare a draft constitution to be presented to the union’s board, which will meet at Palestine Al-Ahliyeh University in Bethlehem.

Birzeit University’s dean of student affairs Mohammad Al-Ahmad said the meeting is part of the deans’ responsibility at Palestinian universities to establish an appropriate legal environment for the work of student councils at the universities, and also to create a legal framework for all student councils, namely the General Union of Palestinian Students constitution.

During the meeting, they also discussed promoting cooperation between Palestinian universities by organizing joint activities.
