Tenth Engineering Day

The Birzeit University Faculty of Engineering on May 20, 2014 kicked off its tenth Engineering Day, which included exhibits by engineering companies, faculty’s graduate students’ projects, technical seminars, and a ceremony honoring outstanding engineering students.

The event, which was sponsored by Projacs International, BCI Company, and Royal industrial Corporation, is intended to deepen relations with the wider community and create positive interactions with engineering companies, the Palestinian Engineers Association, and professional federations.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Henry Giacaman explained that the Faculty of Engineering is a beacon for science and advancement, and that the participation of many leading engineering companies reflects the high academic standing of Birzeit University and its Faculty of Engineering.

Faculty Dean Afif Hasan told guests that, through this event, the faculty seeks to keep pace with local labor market demands, and that the activities of the Engineering Day embody the ongoing interaction between the local and regional engineering sector, the university and the community.

Palestinian Engineers Association President Ahmad Adili said that the association is working very hard to support engineering work and underscored the role of engineers in construction and development.

Projacs deputy director engineer Nasir Kanaan gave a briefing on the company, which was founded in 1984 in Kuwait and rated one of the top Arab project management companies. Projacs owns a network of over 20 main offices in the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, with a crew of more than 600 specialists.

BCI director Saeed Brancy spoke about the company’s interest in supporting the education sector in Palestine, particularly engineering and technology, adding that BCI occupies a leading position in the field of communications and owns a huge base of customers throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

The main lecturer at the two-day event was businessman and engineer Munib Al-Masri.
