For the third year running, the BZU Science Festival offered the latest in scientific exploration in chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology.

Its closing ceremonies were held on Monday November 12, 2012 in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Education, the French Cultural Center, Al-Nayzak Association and Al-Qattan Center.

Festival coordinator, Safi Safi, noted that the events were applauded by BZU students and faculty, as well as the students of schools that participated. Schools in Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Salfit and other areas of the West Bank all participated in the festival.

“The main goal of establishing the festival is to generate various scientific ideas and apply them in front of students in an attempt to raise their interest in the importance of basic science in daily life,” Safi indicated. “Developing scientific thinking not only improves education and develops research that aims to serve society but also helps students make proper decisions about their daily lives.” he added.

Ahmad Habayib, a student from Sinjil, expressed great admiration for the festival, saying he enjoyed an activity that demonstrated a giant soap bubble and another called “Challenge your own knowledge” that aimed to evoke critical thinking through games.

Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Wa'il Qara'in, noted that the festival contributes to generating a passion for science among youth. Students see how we are surrounded by science, he said, and how it can be applied on our daily lives.

Established in 1972, the Faculty of Science at BZU helps to create opportunities that assist students in making use of science in their daily lives. It has several laboratories for physics, biology, chemistry, and general science that are used in teaching and conducting scientific research.
