Two Birzeit Professors Dr. Abdul Rahim Sheikh, Dr. Asem Khalil Win Fulbright Scholarship for 2015-2016

Birzeit University has managed to obtain two advanced "Fulbright Scholarships," which are usually granted to senior professors and researchers worldwide. The professor of philosophy and cultural studies Abdul Rahim Al-Shaikh and Dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration Dr. Asem Khalil won the two grants for 2015-2016.

Accordingly, Al-Shaikh will spend one sabbatical year 2015-2016, whereas his research "The Palestinian Living Cemetery" has won the grant. Moreover, Al-Shaikh received two invitations from two prestigious universities in the United States to conduct his research, namely: the Department of Comparative Literature and the rhetoric and critical theory program at the University of California-Berkeley; and the Centre for Palestine Studies-Department of Middle Eastern, African and South Asian Studies at Columbia University - New York.

Khalil won the grant for his research on “Arab Political systems in crisis: the search for alternative approaches to understanding the dynamics of the Arab political systems." Khalil will travel to spend one sabbatical year 2015-2016 at New York University, School of Law, the Center on Law and Philosophy, to expand his research.

As a matter of Fact, Khalil is an associate professor of Public Law, and holds the Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani chair for constitutional and international law. He is also a board member of the Palestinian Judicial Institute and Al-Haq Foundation. Khalil holds a doctorate degree in public law from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), and Bachelor of Law from the Lateran University (Italy) and Master of Public Administration from the National School of Administration (France).

Khalil authored several specialized research studies on constitutional law and international refugee law, which were published in refereed journals, including: the International Journal of Constitutional Law and the International Journal of Refugees Law, published by  Oxford University.
