Two Professors Awarded Kuwait Prize for Scientific Progress

Birzeit University Faculty of Arts dean and professor of linguistics Mahdi Arar, and professor of economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics Nidal Sabri  have won Kuwait Prize awards for 2014. The prize is bestowed by the Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science to Arab scientists in the fields of basic sciences, applied sciences, economics and social sciences, arts and literature and Arab and Islamic scientific heritage.  

Arar holds a doctorate degree in Arabic language and literature, with a specialization in linguistics from the University of Jordan. He is also the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani chair at the university and has won numerous other awards.

Sabri won the award for economics and social sciences and management. He served as Faculty of Business and Economics dean for several years, and is the author of 85 research papers and books published in Arabic and English. He also sits on the editorial and arbitration boards of 30 scientific journals and has consulted for the United Nations.

The Kuwait Prize was established in 1979 in line with the objectives of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science to support and encourage Arab scientists and researchers.
